Û This has felt like a long wait for fans, but the No Bragging Rights Û
Û label debut is finally here. Illuminator is everything this band’s Û
Û followers could have expected and wished for. Melodic hardcore anthems? Û
Û Check. Soaring vocal choruses and tremendous screaming verses? Check. Û
Û Brutal breakdowns that get your blood pumping? Check. Overall, solid Û
Û album flow? Check. On paper, this formula should be enough to entice new Û
Û listeners to check this band out, but let’s take this review a bit Û
Û further, shall we? While the opener, “Beautiful And Spineless”, is a Û
Û great well-rounded track to kick things off with, it’s the song that Û
Û follows that truly gets the energy flowing. “6th & Main” immediately Û
Û sounds like a frantic escape accompanied by some great vocal work and Û
Û suitable lyrics (“We burned this place to the ground”), making it an Û
Û instant favorite. It is then followed by the energetic and exciting Û
Û “Weeding Out The Weak”, a track that will prove very useful in waking Û
Û one’s self up in the morning. As Illuminator plays through, you’re Û
Û welcomed by a bevy of genre samplings to keep things from becoming Û
Û stale. This includes the obvious hardcore melds and punk boosts, but No Û
Û Bragging Rights do branch out a bit more than that (check out the Û
Û instrumental interlude, “Cease Fire”). Sure, this disc probably couldn’t Û
Û be labeled as “unique” or “extremely varied”, but it is certainly Û
Û expansive enough that you won’t catch yourself thinking “I’ve been Û
Û hearing this same thing over and over”. With this being a big problem of Û
Û most bands these days, especially in the hardcore scene, it’s nice to Û
Û hear bands like No Bragging Rights keeping it fresh and fun. If given Û
Û the chance, Illuminator will likely make new fans easily. It definitely Û
Û has the capability of becoming a winner.
