The 222s were a Canadian punk band active from 1978 to 1983. They are most famous for their 1979 single "I Love Susan". .[1]


The Montreal punk band The 222's were formed by Chris Barry in 1977 while he was still in Junior High School. The band took their name from a Canadian pain killer of the same name. After the release of two moderately successful singlesin 1979 & 1981, the band left their native Montreal relocating to Toronto, but they weren't able to sustain their previous success and split.

Barry then moved to England where he would team up with ex-Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock but the two didn't see eye to eye and instead, with Barry living in squalor in vacant flats and the London transit system he joined the Southern Death Cult following Ian Astbury's departure.

Concurently in 1982 drummer Louie Rondeau teamed up with The 222s assistant manager Marc Fontaine to form the successful synthpop group Nudimension[2].

Barry returned to North America and reformed the 222's in Montreal with former members Pierre Major and Joe Cerratto. With the addition of Gagne and Paul they became 39 Steps and released several albums as well as playing themselves in the Woody Allen movie 'Hannah and Her Sisters'.[3]

Chris Barry is currently fronting a new act called Acrylic.[4][5]
