    Oi!

Being a European, living in Europe, in a monolingual country, I do not only speak my mother tongue, but the language of one of our neighbouring countries, too. Plus English, of course, like everybody in Europe, as long as they have some "higher" education. My French is rather poor, but good enough to communicate when I'm in France, and I can read Italian and Spanish to some extend.

As to languages, I consider myself very normal and average.

Canada is a bilingual country so I would have thought that everybody speaks both languages. Or at least I would have thought that the members of the smaller language community speak the language of the larger language community. However, in that thread about Coup de Masse, some of you apologised for their English, others did not even start to write in English.

In order to avoid any misunderstanding, your writing in French is absolutely okay to me, as French is part of your common culture and undoubtedly part of your personal identity. Yet I want to ask you this. How come that most of you seem rather monolingual instead of bilingual in a bilingual country?

Like others said, Pirate-punk.net is mainly a french-speaking website. The vast majority of our users come from France, and France is a monolingual country (unlike canada). Some of our users speak German or similar languages, but English speaking users are rare.

I suggest you to register an account at Anarcho-punk.net, we got many multi-lingual forums over there. Or QuebecUnderground.net is a billingual forum.

However, i don't understand the part where you are talking about the debate we had concerning Coup De Masse. The only thing that was said concerning Coup De Masse and english language is that it is contradictory for a patriot band like Coup De Masse to promote the use of english language. Patriots from Quebec are usually strongly against english because they consider it as the oppression/annihilation of their culture and the "americanisation" of their language

edit: i just saw that thread you made about Coup De Masse, i thought you were talking about a discussion we had at QuebecUnderground.net
